Chicago White Sox Players Who Have Hit The Most Home Runs In A Season

With postseason hopes hanging on every pitch, Danks delivered with a masterful, eight-inning shutout performance in which he allowed just two hits, three walks, and struck out four. He struck out AL batting champ Joe Mauer twice. He held Carlos Gomez and Denard Span, who came up so big for the Twins last week in Minneapolis, hitless. Possible AL MVP Justin Morneau? Not a chance. He went 0-3 against Danks, who looked unhittable for much of the game.

The atmosphere at U.S. Cellular Field was electric, as a crowd of 40,354 rabid Sox fans dressed in black witnessed one of the most exciting games in Comiskey Park/U.S. Cellular Field history. The “blackout” was a success, as the Sox did what the University of Georgia could not do Saturday night.

Both teams are back at it today at 6 PM CT. Mark Buehrle (11-9) will take the ball from Ozzie Guillen and look to improve upon his stellar 3.74 ERA on the season. The lefty has struggled recently however going 0-3 with an 11.74 ERA over his last three starts.

With a roster spot open, the Sox then called up outfielder Alejandro De Aza. He had an immediate impact with the Sox. In his first at bat of the season, De Aza hit a two-run homerun as the White Sox defeated the Tigers 2-1. John Danks struck out 10 in picking up his 4th win of the season and Santos got his 21st save. With the win, the Sox moved to 51-52, 1 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Indians and just 3 1/2 behind the Tigers. The Sox now get a day off in preparation for their big weekend series against the A.L. East leading Boston Red Sox. Gavin Floyd (8-9) will face Tim Wakefield (6-3).

Jason Frasor is a graduate from Oak Forest High School and pitched for Southern Illinois University. His record this year is 2-1 with an ERA of 2.98, 37 strikeouts and 10 holds. Stewart was sent to the minors. Frasor will definately be an added bonus to the bullpen that already has sale jerseys, Matt Thornton and Sergio Santos.

Notes — Milton Bradley’s home run in the third inning landed just in front of me. I was surprised to see Matt Murton batting clean up for the Rockies.

24. Minnesota Twins – The big question in Minnesota is if Ron Gardenhire will keep his job. It’s unlikely the Twins will show much improvement for another couple of years.

Two encouraging offensive showings immediately carried over to Monday’s game. Gordon Beckham got going early with a two-run line drive homer, his third of the season, to left in the second inning off Angels starter Ervin Santana. Carlos Quentin continued the barrage with his second double of the night and fifteenth of the season in the fifth. This one would score Alexei Ramirez and make the score 4-0. Manager Mike Scioscia left Santana in for one too many batters as Ramirez would strike again planting one in the seats on a first pitch fastball making the score 5-0 in the seventh. The Angels call to the pen would only benefit the Sox as Quentin hit a three-run homer to dead center on a hanging breaker making the score 8-0, which is where it would stay.

Five Reasons To Be Optimistic About The White Sox

Of course, no one else in the Biogenesis scandal was targeted for a year-long suspension. While Rodriguez seems to have saved what’s left of his 2013 season, the entire 2014 campaign and the start of 2015 is on the line. By that time, he will be 40 years old and likely have even less to offer than he does now.

Nunez also played a large role in the Yankees scoring their first run of the night. With Chris Stewart at the plate, runners on the corners, and two outs, manager Joe Girardi ordered up a double steal with Nunez on first and Vernon Wells on third. Nunez went halfway to second base, forcing a throw down and allowing Wells to slip in under the relay back to the plate. Nunez would head safely into second.

Having Rodriguez didn’t make up for not having Derek Jeter or Mark Teixeira. In fact, Vernon Wells was the only Yankee swinging a hot bat with a three-hit night, although his teammates had six combined themselves. But with Pettitte giving up seven runs, no amount of offense would have been enough.

12. New York Yankees – The Yankees deserve a lot of credit for hanging in the playoff race all season. Joe Girardi deserves AL Manager of the Year, and Mariano Rivera gets a tip of the cap for a tremendous career.

It’s no secret that Miguel Cabrera is off to an incredible start, but the Tigers are also getting major contributions from Brandon Inge, who appears to be reborn in his return to third base. Last season, Inge hit .263 in 13 games against the sale jerseys, striking out 12 times and registering only five RBIs. Inge’s performance could play an enormous role on the outcome of this series.

With a 6-5 setback to the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field keyed by three RBI each from Juan Pierre and Alexei Ramirez, the Indians ended the season 69-92 to finish 9-9 against Chicago.

Texas will also have a lefty on the mound tonight with C.J. Wilson getting the call. He is 12-5 on the year with a 3.20 Era. His last time out, he held the Angels to two runs in seven innings to notch his 12th win of the season. Wilson is 3-1 against the Red Sox with an era of 1.69.
